The Haunted Job Center
61The Job Corps is a brilliant method for youths who’ve had a rough start to get ready for a much smoother future. The Corps helps you in finishing your education, trains you for a job, and gives you a place to say while you do so. The initiative in Albuquerque is just the same, with the exception of “residents” there who may be from a time when the building was an orphanage and all boys’ school
The Sisters of St. Francis created the orphanage and school in 1918, and continued to help the homeless children until 1971, when the Department of Labor claimed it. There are government records which describe a situation where one of the nuns, Sister “M” who went crazy and randomly murdered many of the boys. When the school was installing a pool in the location of a well, they discovered kids’ bodies in the well shaft. They say you can still hear the cries of the dying boys.
Since the Job Corps taking over, many of the legends have been suppressed. But one must wonder what exactly does the Job Corps know about ghastly occurrences in the buildings. In the Job Corps handbook, it explicitly states the prohibition of Ouija boards on campus. Though the suppression continues, tales of strange sounds have leaked out. One of the most popular is seeing a nun carrying a baby outside the mess hall. Could she be the homicidal nun?
Another conductor for strange things in the bench in front of the Independent Dorm. You take a seat there at night, and you’ll hear the laughter of children playing, as well as adults scolding them. It’s like the area in front of you is a play area for spirits.
One student, from the 80’s reported seeing lots of activity—sounds of laughing, crying and the tip-tap of shoes walking down the halls when there was no source of the sound. Others have mentioned seeing things in the mirrors of the older rooms.
Finally, one of the weirdest evens it that all clocks in the Center, even wristwatches, stop at the same time.

Most Job Corps centers are former military or airforce bases. And stories of hauntings in a Job Corps center are pretty common as well.
